Avelo Airlines quashed a boycott campaign over its polarizing decision to operate federal deportation flights.

Seth Miller, a New Hampshire lawmaker, placed billboard ads protesting Avelo Airlines' decision to operate flights for ICE. Avelo accused him of trademark infringement.

Seth Miller, an independent aviation journalist and state lawmaker in New Hampshire, began the campaign last week with advertisements on two billboards near Avelo's busiest airport urging travelers to avoid the airline. The ads, near Tweed New Haven Airport in Connecticut, featured a modified Avelo logo and the message: "Does your vacation support their deportation? Just say AvelNO!"

Days later, a lawyer for the airline sent Mr. Miller a letter saying he had violated Avelo's trademark. Mr. Miller said the airline had also persuaded the billboard operator, Lamar Advertising, to take down the ads. In response, he sued the airline Friday afternoon in Nevada, where the airline is incorporated, asking a court to affirm that he was only exercising his freedom of speech.

The painting of those words was an act of government-sponsored defiance during President Donald Trump's first term. Bailiff called the dismantling of Black Lives Matter Plaza, "historically obscene" and said its presence was, "more significant at this very moment than it ever has been in this country."

Introduced by U.S. Rep. Andrew Clyde, House Bill 1774 would withhold certain apportionment funds from D.C. unless the mayor removes the mural, removes the "Black Lives Matter" phrase from all websites, documents, etc. and renames the area "Liberty Plaza."

This would withhold 50% of the funds on the first day of each fiscal year starting after the date of enactment if the mayor does not comply.

Clyde [...] is also a Navy Veteran and is the owner of [an online gun store]. He wrote, "This woke, divisive slogan will no longer stain the streets of America's capital city."

Since they're also removing the bollards, I assume they're also turning this public plaza back into a freeway. Taking this opportunity to say "fuck you" to anyone not in a car is just the cherry on top.

In the past, I had done that by ssh-ing in to each; turning off "Overlay"; rebooting; doing an update; turning on "Overlay"; and rebooting again. It was slow and error-prone and often ended up with a bricked system.

It was a real "what the hell am I doing" moment when I realized that 32GB microSD cards are now $3.50 each, so I just imaged each of them at home, then replaced the screens' digital-fingernail brains.

This was still tedious, since they do not each run 100% the same image. They each have "hostname" set differently, because otherwise I don't know how to associate them with the URL that they should load. But doing one install and then dd-ing it a dozen times saved a lot of grief.

Also it occurred to me that I had never written up how our flyer screens actually work, so I did that. There are many "Digital Signage Solutions". This one is mine.
