My having an over-the-air antenna instead of cable means being bombarded with local political advertising. This morning as I had KRON-4 news on, they played a new spot from Marie Hurabiell's campaign. Our pal Marie boasted - boasted! - how she was part of getting Chesa Boudin fired.

Yes... because Crook Jenkins has just been a paragon of morality, hasn't she? 🙄

And if there's anything I miss from the early-pandemic days, it's how (despite Covid being airborne) we were all encouraged to sing 20-second songs whilst washing our hands. My go-to was the chorus of "Down with the Sickness," which also fit the theme of the activity.

I blame COVID. Back in 2021 when everyone else was getting into a nice wholesome lockdown hobby like making sourdough bread, the Outer Sunset Karens decided to recall some politicians.

Dude, Mayor Bluejeans (and the official SF Dem Party) is flooding the airwaves with adverts saying "SF is totes on the up-and-up thanks to me, but Prop D (the billionaire tax) will ruin it! It'll turn us into New York - not the pretty one made by Guiliani and Bloomberg; the dirty one from Escape from New York! You don't want that, do you?!"

An abundance of false hope and a dearth of common sense are par-for-the-course for our absent-minded mayor.

What really makes all of this pointless is that these candidates are selling park haters false hope. I've talked to plenty of people who voted no on prop K because they were concerned about traffic or weren't convinced by the plan, but who now say they love the park, carmageddon hasn't come to pass, and would vote to keep it. Meanwhile, I've never heard of a single person who says they voted for prop K and regret their choice. So what's the point in voting again?

More importantly, it's out of the city's hands at this point. I can't imagine any universe in which the California Coastal Commission gives its approval to destroy the coastal park they unanimously approved in favor of a four lane shortcut to the Daly City Home Depot. How are the full-time complainers who recalled Engardio going to react when they find out Alan Wong sold them a bill of goods and his ballot measure can't even do what he says it will?

Hey, Ted Cruz was born in Canada, but he keeps running for PotUS. Libertarians are more of the "Rule for thee, not for me"-types.

Ed Jew also has the distinction of not even being eligible to run in the first place because he didn't even live in the district, which makes you wonder what the purpose of a neighborhood election is even supposed to be.

Not everyone, just the Karens. Like all political skullduggery, they're a loud (white) minority who have lots of money (both old-money SF and the new Garry Tan-types who've never set foot in the Sunset) who make every issue an "I'm-willing-to-die-on-this-hill!" quest.

Whenever I go to pick up lunch, tools, or whatever from the indie businesses, I overhear English-speaking Chinese neighbours say they wish the aforementioned Karens (who crowd corners with their tables for signing petitions) would "just leave us alone already!" And don't get 'em started on the musical-chairs motherfuckery that Mayor Bluejeans started by trying to replace Engardio. 🙄
